The Babul Ilm Society Ireland offers comprehensive Shia Muslim funeral services to community members in the Island of Ireland, adhering to the specific rites and customs of the Shia Islamic tradition. Our aim is to support families during these times of loss with dignity, respect, and adherence to the Islamic faith.
Services Offered
Immediate Assistance and Guidance: Our team is available 24/7 to offer support and guidance immediately following the passing of a loved one. We understand the importance of promptness in Islamic funeral practices and are here to assist at every step.
Ghusl and Kafan (Washing and Shrouding): We provide facilities for Ghusl (ritual washing) and Kafan (shrouding), conducted by experienced volunteer members under the guidance of Alim. Our volunteers perform these rituals with the utmost care and respect, according to Shia Islamic practices.
Salat al-Janazah (Funeral Prayer): The Salat al-Janazah is conducted in our community center – {Azakhana Address}. We guide and assist in organizing the congregational prayer, led by a Moulana Abu Ahmed/Alim.
Burial Services: Our volunteer services include arranging for the grave, transportation of the deceased, and assistance during the burial process to ensure burial is done in accordance with Shia Islamic rites.
We coordinate with IFI, South Circular Road, Dublin for burial services. The families can contact directly IFI, South Circular Road, Dublin for the burial services.

Payments for these services are made to the IFI, South Circular Road, Dublin. The county council requires 24 hour notice for grave opening.
The following details of the deceased must be provided to the IFI:
Name and address
Date of birth
Date of death
Marital status
Next of kin details (name, address, contact number)
Note: The Babul Ilm Society does not charge the family any money for their assistance, all the assistance performed by the volunteers are free of charge.
After shrouding, the deceased is placed in a coffin for transport and viewing in the prayer hall [upon request]. The funeral prayers offered in the main hall, or it can be performed in open air at the graveyard subject to HSE guidelines.
Transportation: is provided by funeral services, with Rom Massey & Sons, located in Dolphin’s Barn. Families have the liberty to select an alternative service if desired.
Repatriation Services: For families wishing to repatriate their loved ones to their home country, the undertaker – Ron Massy & Sons offer comprehensive assistance, including legal paperwork with Corner and Embassy of the country, transportation coordination, and liaising with the airline.
Note: For repatriation cases, the body must be embalmed by law, and this process is done at the undertaker – Rom Massey & Sons. Washing and shrouding occur at the Centre post-embalming.
Support for Families
Counseling and Support: We offer counseling services and emotional support for grieving families, helping them through this difficult time with empathy and understanding.
Legal and Administrative Assistance: Our team assists in managing the necessary legal and administrative tasks related to the passing, including death certificates and cemetery documentation.
Additional Information
Community Outreach: Regular workshops and informational sessions are conducted to educate our community members about the Shia funeral rites and practices.
Volunteer Opportunities: Community members are encouraged to volunteer, providing an essential service in times of need and gaining spiritual fulfillment.
